Surcharges announced due to possible strike USA
Negotiations regarding wage scale between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA, representing the dockworkers on the US East- and Gulf coasts) and the USMX (the umbrella organization representing ocean carriers) are currently at an impasse. The ILA has indicated that a strike is expected on October 1st, 2024 in case a new agreement is not reached before the current one expires (Sept. 30, 2024).
Any strike could result in significant delays and backlogs of container shipments to, through or from these ports.
Carriers are implementing surcharges such as Peak Season, Local port Surcharges, Emergency congestion surcharges, etc. Numerous carriers are implementing different amounts of surcharges. Surcharges will apply to both LCL and FCL. We will try to inform you as much as possible which surcharges effects to which booking or rate request. Surcharges at a quantum of Usd 1000.- p/TEU or more are no exception.
Kindly be noted your present shipment/request to or from the US East- and Gulf Coast might be subject to surcharge.
In addition to the announced strikes, some carriers have stopped accepting new US Export Rail intermodal bookings. This booking stop will be applicable for all loadports in the US both East coast and Gulf.
