Germany’s largest shipping company is allowed to participate in the Jade-Weser-Port
Germany’s largest container shipping company, Hapag-Lloyd is allowed to participate in Germanies new deep-water port Wilhelmshaven. The EU Commission now confirmed that there are no objections against their aim. Hapag-Lloyds road map is going to manage the new 23.500+ TEU vessels at Wilhelmshaven instead of Hamburg.
Hapag-Lloyd is allowed to take over 30 percent of the Wilhelmshaven container terminal.
The Hamburg shipping company already announced in autumn last year their plans to shift more traffic to Wilhelmshaven. In the long term, this is the right way to go on, they said. There is no further need to cope with the waterway via the Elbe to Hamburg and even more relevant to deal with the congested terminals in the port of Hamburg. In the future, more cargo should be moved to Hamburg by rail and on smaller feeder vessels.
