Entrepreneur duo from Rotterdam want new terminal on Maasvlakte

Hans Vervat and Jan Overdevest, Rotterdam port entrepreneurs, have jointly applied to the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
The entrepreneurs are requesting to rent land on the Maasvlakte to develop a new container terminal there.

The application is for at least 20 hectares with its own transshipment quay, CEO Overdevest said.
Last month, an agreement has already been concluded for the lease of a land area of 5 hectares for the development of a new depot.
This depot would then be used as storage and repair of empty containers.

According to Overdevest, the concept for the new terminal, working name Maasvlakte Container Terminal, is based on handling both empty and full containers. ‘
The objective is to focus mainly on the barge and feeder segment, thus relieving the Waalhaven area.
The entrepreneurial duo hopes to conclude an agreement within six months and hopes to be operational in 2025.

Overdevest’s group operates three terminals in the Waalhaven, UWT, DP7 and the Barge Centre Waalhaven, and one in the Botlek. They deal mainly with empty containers, but also handle full containers. The group also operates Waalhaven Cool Barge, with daily barge services between the Waalhaven area and the deep-sea terminals at the Maasvlakte and those in the Port of Antwerp.
