Cargo residence time in the harbours of Hamburg and Bremerhaven
US IT company FourKites has analysed its cargo tracking information with a view to port development in Europe. The analysis shows that the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven are still congested and that congestion has not decreased as in other European ports. The average dwell time of a container is 9.3 days in Bremerhaven and 9.5 days in Hamburg. (By comparison, the dwell time in Antwerp is 7.5 days and in Rotterdam about 6.9 days). The current time in Bremerhaven is up 43% from the lowest dwell time in April, where in Hamburg it has risen to 79%. It is hoped that the overload will fall back to low levels by Chinese New Year at the latest.
