APMT is to double its Maasvlakte terminal

APM Terminals is to expand its terminal at Amaliahaven on the Maasvlakte and the contract for this with the Port of Rotterdam Authority will be signed soon. The investment decision was already made internally last year, but the announcement had to wait for the final approval of the Dutch subsidiary’s works council. The transformation plan aims to double throughput with the current workforce of 500 FTEs and productivity has already improved significantly in recent years. The terminal will gain about one kilometre of transhipment quay and over eighty hectares of land, doubling transhipment capacity to four million teu per year. The expansion must be realised by 2027 at the latest and is partly linked to agreements with parent company Maersk. APMT will add nine large quay cranes and three smaller lighter cranes, double the rail terminal and 71 new automated guided vehicles will be ordered. Construction activities are expected to start early next year.
